Discussion task for Algernon

During the first English lesson tomorrow, you will have to amuse yourselves by reading even further in the book. This way, we can finish it by next week and you can all be ready for today's discussions.

During the second lesson, I will have a book talk with the Hatchet group while the Algernon people devide into groups and discuss the questions below, recording themselves.

Morgan, Simon S, Simon F, Linus, Pally (bubble, third floor, nearest our class room)
Abdullah, Sanaullah, Daniel, Hanna (bubble, third floor, farthest from our class room)
Anton T, Louise, Anton N, Albin, Philip (bubble, second floor)
Anes, Sebastian, Josefine, Shirzad, Matilda
Johan S, Tim, Johan B, Rasmus (A213)

Algernon

Look at the words below. Try to group them and place them in a an order from rude-polite. What is the difference between the words?

retarded
dim-(witted)
slow-(witted)
mentally handicapped
feebleminded
imbecile
Mentally disabled
idiotic
moronic
simple-minded
mentally challenged

Why is it important what you call people?

What other kinds of examples can you think of when you should use appropriate words (men, women, cultures, nationalitites, race). Do you think about this?
